Privacy Policy

We ask government to account for what it does with public information. It would be strange not to account for what we do with yours.

Effective September 21, 2026

Who we are

The Transparent Humboldt Coalition is a California nonprofit public benefit corporation, entity #6186654, based in Eureka. We are organized under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions to us are not tax-deductible as charitable contributions.

What we collect

Information you give us. If you submit a contact form or subscribe to updates, we receive what you type - typically your name, email address, and message. We keep it to respond to you and to send what you asked for.

Basic analytics. We record aggregate page views, referring sites, and general device type. We use Plausible Analytics, which we run on our own hardware. It sets no cookies, collects no personal data, and cannot follow you to other websites. No advertising networks, no third-party trackers, no fingerprinting.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. Ever.
  • We do not share it with political parties, candidates, or commercial entities.
  • We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking technology.
  • We do not require an account to read anything on this site.

Where it lives

Community data belongs to the community. We keep it on Coalition hardware and do not hand it to third-party services without documented consent. That is a standing commitment, not a preference.

Do Not Track

Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no common standard for honoring it, so we take the simpler route: we do not track you across websites at all, whether or not you send the signal. There is nothing for us to stop doing.

Sensitive reports

If you are considering sharing something sensitive about a public institution, do not use the contact form or email. Neither is built for it. Use the secure channel described on our reporting page, which is operated separately from this website and from the people who run it.

Your choices

Write to us and we will tell you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Every update email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from that list. California residents have additional rights under state privacy law; ask and we will honor them regardless of whether a statute compels us to.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the effective date above and note what changed. We will not quietly broaden what we collect.

Questions

Reach us through the contact page. If something here is wrong or unclear, tell us - a transparency organization with a misleading privacy policy has a bigger problem than a broken page.
